Fifteen Journey - Chapter 2

Rick woke up. The smell around the room remembered him how long he hadn’t eaten a simple piece of food. His tummy growled. Before leaving the little room, he hide his sword under the bed because if it was discovered, there would be certainly a revolt. His sword was called Thynia and it was a gift from the Lord of his village. He just wished he could win “the games” with it and bring the lost value to his village.
“Dinner is served, sir”, said the clerk as Rick went down the staircase as fast as he could. The typical food wasn´t anything special, but at that time, any kind of food was welcome.
He decided to visit Levinita. It was glowing happiness everywhere he went: the nocturn clubs starting the night activity, the concerts that were staring young professionals, even the gardens with the nature enlivening. Rick decided to enter a club for real men to kill his sorrow for alcohol. The ambiance was perfect: everyone was too busy with their own problems and it was difficult to notice him.
“How may I serve you?” asked the employee.
“I’ll have a beer”
The young clerk served it immediately but this wasn’t the beginning of a peaceful night. Rick couldn’t stop hearing a very interesting conversation. A realy old men sat in the corner of the bar started telling a rumour.
“…and I heard that the Rouose candidate uses incredible magic.”
“But that isn’t permitted according to the rules of Tourch!!!” he youngster of the group exclaimed revolted.
“Yes my boy. But “the games” referee isn’t always fair. I guess they are changing the rules this year.”
“What about Cassey? This isn’t fair at all!” the youngster protested again.
“Don’t forget Rouose is one of those cities that could kill us easily” now, it was a middle age men that was talking. “The games are seen now as a brutality competition between villages. Besides, we can give up hope now on Cassey, she needs our hope.”
“Excuse me, is this chair been used?” Rick asked wanting more information.
Almost every men sat on the table was really suspicious from him, but the oldest stopped that bad manner of welcoming the new “Please, join us!”
Rick gained the men’s hope by paying a beer round for everyone, except the little one that preferred a glass of pineapple juice. Then they talked about the games and the head behind this famous sport.
“He never showed up, I’m kind of thinking that this is a way of attracting the public’s curiosity” a new one said like a true professional.
“What if he is a woman?” the woman who was sitting next to the middle age man asked. This caused a revolt.
‘Men, this is even bigger if I said I am one of the candidates.’ Rick thought.
Eventually, everyone went back to their original places.
“So youngster, what made you come to our village?”
Rick was petrified.
“Well…” he said between gasping, “I…I suppose the same as the other people.”
‘Ouf, it has passed…’
“What do you mean as same?” the old man attacked again.
“Just come and see the beggining of the games…”
“But the city has much more to offer, not just some ridiculous Tourch!!!”
The old man began to lose control.
“Ok, you got me. My girlfriend is one of the candidates…”
Everyone gasped.
“So, was that hard to explain why you were here?”
‘Yes, he felt for it!’
“No…”
The conversation stopped there. Everyone went back home and Rick left as well. He could hardly believe his luck. He was almost unmasked! He just wanted to stop the evening by there but that was impossible. The evening had plenty to offer…
