Underground - Chapter 7

If the heart is blind, so is the soul...
Open your eyes , see the road ahead!

The Underground
- Chapter 7 -

Elise rushed outside, again into the poring rain. Looking right and then left, crossed the road and continued to walk along the street back to the park. She took long, large and determined steps, but her mind wasn’t at ease.

She kept telling herself that it wasn’t her fault, Brian was the one who overreacted and acted stupidly; still, she felt that something was wrong and she could have avoided the whole situation. She quickened her pace when she finally saw the cabin.
She reached for the door, closed her eyes and opened it:
“Look, I’m sorry ok?” she apologised.
There was no answer.
“Enough! I don’t deserve this, Brian….” She said stopping her foot, against the wooden floor. Finally, she opened her eyes. Her lower lip trembled, her eyes stung, as she looked at the empty cabin. She turned around, left and closed the door behind her…

It was still raining heavily. Her hair was messy, her clothes were wet and her backpack seemed to weight a ton. She continued to walk; by this time she was completely lost, frightened…in other words, miserable. She didn’t know what to do, where to go, who to talk to…She knew she had blown it off, she had lost two friends in one day.

While she walked, she rose her hand, placed it on her lips, left out a sob and carried on. Her cheeks were wet from rain and rolling tears. She was nearly blind, from all the water and deaf from all the stress and traffic.

After that, time started passing by slowly, in “the slow motion” kind of slow. She was numb, desperate, lost. She dragged her feet around the block, under the rain and thunder, with nothing but a backpack and pallid expression.

Suddenly, she fell on her knees and unhurriedly took out Lance’s blue tissue. She lied back, held the fabric close, blinked twice and slowly closed her eyes. She heard a last lorry/truck honk, before it all went black.

Underground - Chapter 6

Follow your heart to wherever it may take you...you will never regret the path that it choses for you.

Underground
- Chapter 6 - The lost soul

Elise pulled her hand of Lance’s, and turned to Brian.
“What are you doing here?” she asked startled.
Brian took a good look at Lance, made a disgusted smile and finally answered with another question: “What are you doing HERE?”
“I asked you first!” She fought back. Elise felt guilty for her previous actions, but she didn’t know why. She felt if she was betraying Brian , cheating on him…which was ridiculous, because obviously they weren’t going out…they were just friends…
“I’m Lance Roberts” the young man interrupted trying to break the tension between the three of them “and you are…?”
“Brian Attwood” he answered briefly maintaining eye contact with Elise. He looked angry and upset. Elise could easily see the rage in his hazel eyes, even in the middle of the darkness.
Elise got up, walked towards the door and simply left the cabin, in silent but quick steps. She felt ashamed and embarrassed of the whole situation, yet she hadn’t done anything wrong. Now, she was also furious: “how could Brian do this to her?” She walked under the poring rain, into the city streets. She paused in front of a restaurant and looked inside. The day before, she had met Brian and he told her that his parents worked in that exact restaurant. They agreed to meet there on that same day, to go for a walk on the afternoon. That was why Elise had gone to that city block in the first place: she had gone there to get together with Brian; but after the bike incident she felt hungry and decided to go to the grocery store near by…and then she met Lance…
Thunder. Great just great; she wanted to go home so badly, but her bike was at the cabin. “Drats!” She thought while entering the restaurant “It’s either this, or back to the hut!”
The restaurant was full: after all it was lunch time. Elise quietly sat at a corner table, near the window. “Brian will be here anytime now…” she thought while looking at the menu “ and I’ll have to face him like I did earlier before… only this time, he’ll be alone…hopefully”.

***
“Where is he?” a red-head girl asked, across the restaurant.
The woman next to her shrugged her shoulders and entered the kitchen.
The girl shook her head, sighed and walked towards Elise:” May I take your order please?”
Elise gave her the menu “I’ll have a glass of water, please”.
The girl wrote a note down, while turning on her heels.
“Wait!”
“Hum..?” she turned her head, looking over her shoulder” Would you like anything else..?”
“No…It’s just that I couldn’t help overhearing your conversation with that lady over there- she pointed towards a woman near the kitchen- and wonder if everything was alright. Is someone missing?”
“Well, yes…it’s a boy, a teenager that usually helps around the place with the dishes. He’s been missing since…half an hour ago, and truth be told , he NEVER leaves without saying anything”
Elise bit her lip.
“Why? Do you know him?”
Elise got up, and ran outside…she had a terrible feeling- something was defiantly wrong…

Underground - Chapter 5

Yet, another love triangle. The heart is such a misterious place...

UnderGround
- Chapter 5- Misguided Hearts

Lance Roberts was a rather charming young man. He was tall, handsome and polite. He had long blonde hair, deep blue eyes and very light skin. A shy but open-minded gentleman, anyone could easily see that his heart was in the right place.
“Again,” Elise said, with her eyes fixed on the dirty sidewalk “ Thank you”
“No problem, Miss Jones. It was my duty as a fellow citizen and friend…”
Elise’s heart stopped as she heard the word “friend”. She just made a new friend, she had two friends now!
She suddenly found the courage to look at him. He’s perfect face, his tender lips and his pure eyes…such a perfect creature. A quick glimpse at him was all it took to make Elise shiver and look at the ground again. “How embarrassing!” she thought to herself.

They sat there a couple of minutes, in complete silence admiring their surroundings. They had been at the city park ever since they left the grocery store. It was raining. Every bit of ground was covered with water or mud. The sky was dark, and a slight breeze ran through the air. Still, the strangest thing was that despite all the sadness and darkness around them, Elise felt safe and satisfied with Lance, under that small ranger cabin. Even though her feet were wet and her hands were “frozen”, there was no other place she would rather be, than in that smelly old place with him.
Every now and then, during those 2 everlasting minutes, she would take a sneak peak at his peaceful face, with those weary eyes of her. She desperately wished that those blissful minutes would never end…
“ You know Miss Jones,” he began , turning to face her “ finding you in that shop…was no coincidence…”
Elise turned to face him as well. She couldn’t help wondering what did he meant, by “no coincidence” but instead of asking, she simply nodded and waited for him to carry on…
“What I mean is…”
Bingo! She thought to herself, biting her lower lip.
“I feel like I know you since…ever! And that we have already met, sometime ago…”
Oh.
“This may sound strange…but I think we’re… meant to be…”
Ooooh ...right.
Elise’s heart stopped once more…but this time for a longer while.
“Hummm…” was all she managed to say… then she swallowed hard, and felt her voice fail on her…the words wouldn’t come out. Her throat was sore and her lips were trembling. She desperately reached her cold hand to her throat, and continued to make odd sounds. Lance smiled, and gently removed her hand placing it in his…it was soft and warm.
“ I can understand it’s a bit of a shock for you…but”
His words were interrupted by the sound of someone opening the old cabin. The person was in fact a teenage boy, around 15 years old wearing a football sweater with a number five on the back. He was tall , had dark brown hair, but Elise couldn’t see his face properly because of the dark environment. Then, he came closer and closer…Elise’s jaw dropped open, as soon as she realised that the tall dark boy was in fact…
“Brian?”

Underground - Chapter 4

It's finally here! :)

Often we need to deal with enpleasant situations.Sometimes we can fix then by discussing the matter proparly , others by arguing and showing our point of view. We always have to solve a problem, but rarely OUR problem is solved by another...

Underground
- Chapter 4-
Fallen Angel

The next morning Elise woke up feeling happy for once. She slowly brushed her long silky hair, while humming along the hallway towards the stairs. After a brief goodbye to the house members, she left the house leaving the door behind her unlocked, but closed.
She zipped her backpack, stuffed her keys in her left pocket and got on her grey bike.

As she rode down the city’s streets, she remembered the day before, when she met Brian. She was so sure her life would change after that incident.
She looked up at the tall skyscrapers, and smiled: she could see the bluish sky up there, a plane passing right threw it and some birds migrating…after all, it was winter.
Then she looked at the side walk again, made a smile and laughed; just like that.
Afterwards she turned her head, facing the huge windows of the buildings that showed her reflection, like pure still water. She released a hand from the bike, and rose it up feeling scared but excited. Then, she released the other, steering with no hands at all. She felt free, exited and light, as if she could fly, higher then ever!
“I’m the queen of the world!” She screamed passionately, while looking at the fake “mirrors”.There she saw a figure… then another, and later another. All pearly white and flying by her side. She got nervous and pedalled, harder and harder. Her bike was “squeaking” , and her feet were tired, but the small shadows kept following her. The faster she went, the nearer they were. She was now terrified, tense and struggling to escape these creatures. She could feel them near, so she yelled and threatened, kicking them with her left foot. Then one of them “bit” her bike, making her all tremble and lose control. She pushed the breaks and fell.Elise felt pain on her back and arms, when she got up and turned around to face the creatures. They were no longer there; how predictable. She tried to clean her shorts, but they were filled with dirt and in rags. Her bike was a mess, and the sky turned cloudy “menacing” rain.
While she walked a down the streets (along with her bike) , people stared at her from her messy hair to her ripped shorts, and made and disgusted or pity-filled face. It made her feel awful.
Finally she arrived to her destination, the e-mart. She entered the place, grabbed a grocery bag, stuffed it with some fruit, cereal and three packs of gummy bears, ready to “hit the hell out of there” has soon as she could. She waited on the cash-register line and heard whispers behind her; people talking about her appearance and judging her looks. “Next client” asked cash register; Elise put down her groceries and sighed in relief. The woman simply did her job and handed over the bill.
“32 dollars?” the girl asked outraged.
“Yes, didn’t you hear me in the first place? Come on, there are other customers waiting! NOW PAY, PLEASE!” the woman yelled, about to lose her temper.
“But I don’t have that much money…”
While Elise sobbed desperatly, all looked towards her shocked, and the lady was about to call the police when HE showed up.
“That’s alright, I’ll cover for her” he said, handing the money with a smile.
Elise looked up, facing the person who had just saved her from the worst moment of her entire life, and got speechless.
“Hi, I’m Lance!” he introduced himself, handing her a blue tissue.

Underground- Chapter 3

This chapter is dedicated to new and old friends of mine:Stick around, never leave , and if I act in a selfish and stupid way, you can slap me in face!(Just don't push it, people make mistakes!) :)

In this particular Chapter Elise makes her first friend, Brian.Nothing much happens, but I think it turned out pretty good.

Anyway, the real action will be back in Chapter 4.Stay tunned!

Underground
- Chapter 3 - Welcome to my heart, friend

Elise was stunned by the cruelty of the Dark Lord, yet intrigued.
“You mean, I could get whatever I wanted if I joined your side?”

“My side?” Merthus laughed “Little girl, this is not as simple as The Star Wars!”
Elise felt insulted and confused, while the creature continued to laugh even harder.
Then, he stopped and his face turned obscure and showed fright. It seamed something was there, something far more greater than him-self.”Yes, My Lord…” Merthus whispered with a bow “the matter has just been taken care of”.
Elise quickly turned willing to face whoever Merthus was talking to. But there was no nothing there, but a glowing red light… it had such strong and powerful force.
Elise felt numb and weak, before that “thing”…it was sucking her soul and draining all her life away. She could swear she was dying, when she hit the cold, hard floor and heard a painful scream… of a woman.

Elise opened her eyes, feeling tired and puzzled. Was it all a dream? It looked so real.
She got up, sitting on the thin grass, and looked at her surroundings. She was at the school’s front yard, and there was a boy staring at her from the football field. He had a warm smile on his face. Was that the soccer team captain, Brian? Yes, and he was coming towards her.
Elise got nervous, and started whipping the grass all over her body and taking the small leaves of her head.

“Hi! Need a hand?” he asked kindly, while approaching.
Elise blushed and nodded. Her heart pumped faster than ever, yet the Merthus wasn’t there.“How strange” she thought to herself while getting up.
“Wait! Let me help” he said, placing his hands in hers “You look kind of confused…what were you doing here at this time anyway?”
Elise placed her hand on her forehead.
“Oh!” he exclaimed, looking at a bump in her head “Did you just hit something?”
“The fall” she thought “ It was real after all…but she couldn’t tell him what really happened…he’d think she was insane. No one else could see the two creatures…” “ I think I accidentally hit this…humm.. Tree! I didn’t really notice it!” she explained.
“You can’t be serious!!” he said, laughing “What kind of a person doesn’t see a tree this big?”
Elise looked up at the Wholly Tree. He was right; her excuse was even more ridiculous than the actual truth. That tree was as big as a lorry!
“Well, I suppose I am” she agreed, sadly “I got to go now, before my parents call 911 and ground me for life!”
“You can’t go home YET! Come on, lets go to the school’s nursery!” he yelled, laughing again.

Maybe the school wasn’t that bad after all. Elise had met someone nice and comforting, who didn’t think she was crazy or dull…in fact, she had just met her first friend.

Underground
-Chapter 2- The arrival of Darkness

Three o’clock. In less than an hour, the day would finally be over. Elise would be free to walk home alone, and do her house chores. How…exciting? No, it was plain dull; just like her-self.
She knew she was different from the other children. While the others played happily in their front gardens with their pets and friends, Elise stayed home admiring from far, what a happy childhood was like. It wasn’t her parents fault thought; this was her own struggle to find, inner peace and to live a normal life. For you see, Elise carried this “burden“ since she was a young child, and never managed to decide which path to take. Until now…

“Well, class that’s about it! So, remember to study for your test next week, and have a very nice weekend!” Miss Cumpleton said packing her books and worksheets. The whole class stood up, marched towards the lobby at the sound of the “screaming” school bell and left the building, while Elise stayed there, staring at the window; how she wished she had that many friends and a pretty boyfriend. She closed her eyes, and screamed.

A scream like no other: filled with anger, fear, jealousy, stress and horror .All those feelings trapped inside were released… in the worst way possible. Elise raised her hands to her face, sighed and finally, cried. Between sobs, she heard laughter. Slowly she lifted her head, held her breath and opened her eyes. Darkness and emptiness surrounded her. She could hear her own breath and heart beat…as if time stopped for a moment. A figure was taking from in the pure darkness of the horizon. Elise was now trembling from fear, as if there was something there that could…end her life, right there and then.

“You must be the Neu…” said the figure fully formed, with a bow and a smile on his face .He was handsome, warm and had dark wings. His hair was white as the moonlight, his eyes sparkled like red emeralds and his skin was pale and soft.
“Another creature” Elise murmured “You must be…the dark part of me”
“Why yes…I presume Alora has told you about me. Did she mention my name?” Elise looked away from his controlling eyes and whispered a brief “no”. She felt her eyes burn from pain and fear, she was about to cry again, when the dark angel placed his hand under her chin, and lifted her head:
“You’re not afraid of me are you?” He asked with a grin on his face “I’m just here to help…but if you want, you can run back to Alora…after hearing my offer”.
Elise bit her lip and left out a sob. Why was this happening to her?
“First, let me introduce myself” he began, sitting in a chair that had just appeared in the middle of the “room” - “My name is Merthus. I’m one of the Gate Guardians. My job, here is too show you to best away of accomplishing what you want…”
The poor girl remained quiet except now she was carefully listening.
“Even if that means, stepping over someone…”

Underground - Chapter 1

Introduction

There's a time in life when you have to chose the path you will follow for the rest of your life. Somethimes, you make that decision right in the beginning, other times you just make your mind near the end.Nerver less, it's an important journey, life, and it depends fully of the choices you make. Afterall the most dificult choices are the ones that can change your life forever, and can only be made by you...

Underground
-Chapter one- Time of Changes

Elise sat in her bed, feeling a slight breeze enter her room. After yawning and stretching her arms (and legs), she reached her alarm-clock: “What? Well this can’t be right…”She thought to herself while rubbing her eyes “It can’t be that early!”
She got up and walked towards the window across her room. She opened it, and looked up for some sort of sign that would tell her that it was wrong…the alarm clock…it had to be broken. Everyone was still a sleep; there were no lights in the nearby houses and no sound of a car or person passing by. Elise felt lonely.

For a moment, she rested her head, on her arms, and dropped a tear right there, on the window pane. Then, the tear disappeared, as well as the next one, and following tears she “spilled”. Elise noticed this amazing event, and raised her head looking up at the strange figure floating, before her.

“Elise, please don’t cry” said the figure with a soothing voice.
“What’s happening? Where did you come from?” she asked with a shaky voice. The figure was so beautiful, yet so cold.

“It’s alright.” She said smiling. “Everything is going to be just fine.”
“What do you want from me?”
“I want to help you. Make all the pain go away” She explained coming closer “but please, don’t cry.”

Elise whipped the remaining tears in her cheek and stood up straight, willing to hear what this figure had to say.
“My name is Alora; I’m one of the Howling Spirits. I’m your guarding angel” Nina was surprised. She didn’t know anything about these mystical creatures.
“And, do you know how to stop the pain I feel inside? It’s so awkward…So dark, and at the same time so…right. ”
“The pain you feel is a call from the underworld. You see, you have a very pure heart. But it’s still neutral.”

“ What do you mean?”
“Well, you have a very strong and open heart. But it can either revert to good or evil. You need to choose between these two forces. No one can make that choice for you. Yet, I can guide you trough these hard times. Show you the good in life, and how to get what you need to accomplish.”

Elise’s eyes fully opened from happiness. She could really use some guidance right now. Her life seamed so complicated; and she was defiantly lost.

”However, I must warn you, the best way isn’t always the easier. Keep that in mind , ok?” Alora advised, before vanishing in thin air.
